August 2011 - Abraham's faith - is your faith!

"Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be". Rom.4:18 What does it mean? When all human hope was lost because of Abraham's old age, Sarah's infertility and a host of impossible circumstances, Abraham believed in hope. God's hope! That hope has its origin in God's Divine nature. The God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. (Rom 4, 13 - 21). Fantastic! This is your faith!
Hebrews 11:6: Faith Pleases God! He rewards!
So we know that we often fall short - it is faith dilemma: I may think I have little faith, weak faith or unbelief. A man said to Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief!

I Faith is grace - not performance
1. Hebrews 12: 2: JESUS; faiths author and finisher.
- In our imperfection, faith works when we focus on Jesus and God's word
- Grace is always Christ-centered. Faith is also Christ-centered.
2. Faith can not work through the laws and requirements. Why?
- Law (10 Commandments) is human-centered: "YOU shall - YOU shall not."
3. All men are always in danger of being carnal and human-focused in their faith journey. But "law" and "grace" are opposites:
- The law being: Own work - own deeds - the laws requirements - self-centered life - crime and injustice
- Grace being: No own works - but based on the Grace of Jesus - Christ-focused life - Faith and Justice!
- You decide where you want your focus to stay! A mature Christians faith will more and more recognise faith as a "spiritual reflection" in his life.

II Right image of God is crucial!
1. Who do you believe in? God! The Father!
- He is faithful, He is love, He is our righteousness, He is our good Father who support us, he is our healer.
- People came to Jesus and believed in him because they thought he was able.
2. How do you get a strong and living faith? By reading and living in God's word!
- Room 12.2 Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

III What happened when faith becomes weak?
1. Its a fact. Faith may become weak. It is human. About Abraham, the Bible says: "Without becoming weak in faith"
- Weak faith = little faith: Large circumstances - but a little God
- Strong belief = faith: Large circumstances - but God is BIGGER than the circumstances and is able.

2. God will never credit and encourage you for your doubts or weak faith (it is religious). But he will always bring you from the unbelievers and weak faith into miraculous faith!
Believe in your faith - doubt your doubts. I choose to believe every day!

To reflect on:
1. What has happened in my life when my faith is weak and small and I have emotions of unbelif?
2. How can we encourage and strengthen each other's faith in a biblical, healthy and gracious way?
3. Faith and spiritual maturity? Is there a connection?
4. Witness to one another: Can you tell about a time God did something for you that you had no control over yourself?

Takk = Nåde
